In Christ

Belonging Growing Serving

First Church of the Nazarene in San Bernardino was first started in 1920.

We are part of God's powerful, live-giving story.

This is the story of many becoming one, those far away being brought near…

all of us, out of our lost-ness, were found and brought home to Jesus Christ;

and brought home by Him to this particular congregation.

We have all come here and found a place to belong.

We have found love, acceptance and friendship;

we have found a place of meaningful service; a place to grow; a space we call home.

We open our hearts to accept everyone into God's family.

We open our hands to give love to our community by sharing our faith in Christ,

feeding the hungry, and caring for the homeless, the needy, the lonely.

We care.

We believe that every person matters

because every person is loved by God and has the right to life, safety and dignity.

We are grateful for a growing family.

We find meaning and joy in serving Christ together.

We belong to one another and to Him.

"Faith is to believe what you do not see;

     the reward of this faith is to see what you believe."

Saint Augustine

by reasoning,

but with the heart."

Blaise Pascal

What we Believe

  •    We believe in one God, The Creator of all things,

who reveals himself as Father, Son, and Spirit.

  • We believe in Jesus Christ, fully God and fully man,

who became like us in our to save us.

  • We believe in the Holy Spirit, at work in the world

to draw all people to the knowledge of God, the forgiveness of sins, and eternal life in Christ our Lord.

  • We believe that the Bible is the Word of God,

that authoritatively reveals the character of God,

His saving mission, and His call to salvation by faith to all persons.

  • We believe that we are all sinners by both nature and act

and are in need of God's forgiveness, and cleansing.

  • We believe that Jesus Christ died on the Cross

to deliver all people from sin and death,

and that, by trusting in Him, we are restored to a right relation to God.

  • We believe that God has granted us the ability to choose

between right and wrong with its benefits and consequences.

  • We believe that each person is accountable to God,

and can be saved by turning away from sin

and trusting fully in Christ alone for salvation.

  • We believe that when we turn from sin and trust in Christ,

God freely forgives our sins, not through our own merit, but because He loves us and makes us spiritually alive by the Holy Spirit, thereby bringing us into the family of God.

  • We believe that after all who have believed in Christ for salvation,

can experience the fullness of God's Spirit in our hearts.

By our wholehearted trust and surrender, the Holy Spirit cleanses our hearts, fills us with His perfect love, and enables us to live in growing faith and love.

  • We believe that the Church is the Body of Christ,

called to carry out His mission saving mission in the world

through the power of the Holy Spirit.

  • We believe in baptism

as a sign and sacrament of faith in Christ.

  • We believe that the Lord's Supper celebrates salvation

through the sacrificial death of Christ on behalf of all humankind.

  •  We believe that Jesus Christ will return to this earth in glory.

  • We believe that everyone will face the judgement of God

with its rewards and punishments.
