How it all started...

Our church began in 1920 on F Street, during a season when the Church of the Nazarene was growing outward from Los Angeles. The original sanctuary—now home to our gym—served as the first gathering space for our congregation.
Our current sanctuary was built later, using architectural plans originally created for the Long Beach Church of the Nazarene. This shared history connects us to the wider Nazarene movement and reminds us how God has guided our story from the start.
From those early days, the church has been rooted in prayer, a love for the neighborhood, and a desire to serve families with the heart of Christ.

Expanding the vision...

As our city grew and changed, the church continued to respond to the needs around us. In 1950, Valley Christian School, Preschool, and Infant Center was established, creating a long-standing ministry that supports families and nurtures children.
In 1990, the Loren L Marner Compassionate Ministry Center began providing food to the community, expanding in 2001 to include clothing. As the neighborhood shifted and more families faced financial challenges, the church leaned in even more—listening to our members, praying together, and sending faithful volunteers into the community.
Through every season, our church family has stayed committed to keeping God first, supporting one another, and creating a place where people feel known, welcomed, and loved.

Where we are headed...

We are praying for new ways to reach our neighborhood and share God’s love in meaningful, practical ways. One of our hopes for the future is to launch a Community Resource Center operating two evenings a week from August through February.
This ministry would offer hot meals, open-gym basketball, tutoring, homework help, life-skills classes, basic health services, and short Scripture-based devotionals—each designed to meet real needs and build relationships. As the center grows, the programs would adapt to the needs of the community.
Our vision for the years ahead is simple: grow in the number of people we reach, deepen each person’s relationship with God, and strengthen the bond between our church and our neighborhood. We want everyone who walks through our doors to feel a warm welcome, experience a family-like community, and encounter God’s love and forgiveness.
Our core goal is for the church and the community to become one—walking together, caring for one another, and growing in faith.

Be part of our story...

Join us every Sunday as we gather to worship together a 9:30 am and 11 am.
